Meet our Brands: GUBI
Meet our first Scandinavian design highlight of the summer: GUBI. Founded in 1967, GUBI is a design house known for designing and developing a daring and elegant collection of furniture, lighting, and interior design pieces. Current owner, Jacob Gubi, has led the design house to its current position in the global design scene.
Human Centered
One of GUBI’s well-known female designers was Greta Grossman. Grossman, highlighted in our A Summer of Scandinavian Design blog post, shook up the male dominated Scandinavian design world. She is best known for the Grashoppa lamp, a timeless and iconic lighting design. Grossman designed the Grashoppa lamp collection with a backward diagonal slant that looks very similar to a grasshopper clinging to a blade of grass. The Grashoppa lamp is available in a variety of colors, as well as a tabletop version for your desk or bedside.

Sitting in the Clouds
Another iconic GUBI design is the Pacha lounge chair. GUBI’s modular Pacha Collection, designed by Pierre Paulin, creates an environment described to feel like sitting amongst the clouds. The Pacha Collection is a playful take on Scandinavian seating. The modules of the Pacha Collection can be pieced together to create a sofa or used individually to create a personal hygge oasis. The Pacha lounge chair and 3-seater couch are available for your enjoyment and viewing in our Vail showroom.
Inspired by Nature
When it comes to seating you might want a more structured design depending on the purpose and type of moment desired. For example, the Pacha collection encourages lounging and relaxation, whereas the Beetle dining chair is a comfortable yet structured seat that encourages conversation and connection over a meal. Inspired by nature, the Beetle collection pulls inspiration from the beetle insect. Each part of a beetle’s body serves a purpose, just as each element of the Beetle chair has a function.

The Beetle collection allows you to customize the seating that best compliments your space. There are cozy, neutral upholstery colors, as well as warm and moody upholstery to add a pop of color.
